Talks and readings
Agony in the Garden: a retreat day on art and faith.
About
A retreat day exploring gardens real and imagined in visual art, from Eden to Gethsemane and beyond, reflecting on the theological significance of green spaces as sites of solace, turmoil and life-changing encounter. It is led by Dr Deborah Lewer, Senior Lecturer in History of Art at the University of Glasgow and an expert on modern German art and the intersection of theology and the arts. The day runs in conjunction with the Royal Foundation of St Katharine and includes coffee and pastries, a retreat lunch and afternoon tea and cake. Artists' gardens will be considered across paintings, prints, drawings, photographs and more.
