About
An evening with historian Jane Draycott at the bookshop Parade's End Books, marking her new book "Fatal Monsters: Cleopatra, Her Sister Queens, and the Downfall of a Dynasty". Jane Draycott, a historian and archaeologist and Lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Glasgow, tells the story of three sister queens of Egypt – Cleopatra VII, Berenike and Arsinoe – whose rivalry brought down a 300-year-old dynasty. The book describes a tale of passion, intrigue and murder, and of the sisters' efforts to stand up to the might of Rome, whose Republican leaders despised a monarchy controlled by women. Admission is free, with tickets available in advance.
