Aurora Arborealis: eight artists on the illuminated tree.
- James Freeman Gallery
- Price unknown
About
'Aurora Arborealis' is an exhibition of eight contemporary artists exploring the illuminated tree as a motif of the enchantment of Christmastime. It takes its starting point in the old traditions behind the Christmas tree, from the candle-lit 'Paradise Tree' symbolising rebirth at the Winter Solstice to evergreen garlands of ancient Egyptian and Roman cultures, and shows the tree as a bringer of light into the dark forest, a folkloric place where storytelling and imagination rule. The show brings together paintings, drawings and ceramic sculptures by Bertrand Secret, Claire Curneen, Iain Andrews, Gill Button, Carolein Smit, Suzanne Moxhay, Andy Harper and Andrew McIntosh, from glowing Highland wildernesses and mystical forest rituals to figures and creatures dwelling in the darkness. The exhibition runs from 19 November to 19 December 2026 at the gallery.
