About
Benedetta is a film directed by Paul Verhoeven, starring Virginie Efira, Lambert Wilson, Daphne Patakia, Olivier Rabourdin and Clotilde Courau. Set among the mystic reveries of a real-life historical figure, it gives the nunsploitation flick a high-art makeover. Elegant, perverse and teasingly scandalous, it critiques religious hypocrisy with an impish grin. The 2021 film runs 131 minutes.

Critics
6.8Good
Critics praise the bold, audacious storytelling and committed central performances, finding depth in its treatment of faith. They fault an uneven tone that veers between drama and absurdity, and a tamer, less provocative handling than expected.
