The Devils
About
Ken Russell's The Devils is a screening of Ken Russell's epic film about obsession and corruption. Inspired by the true story of the 17th-century priest Urbain Grandier, accused of bewitching a convent of nuns, it lays bare the collusion of church and state through a searing vision of religious persecution, collective hysteria and institutional corruption. Directed by Ken Russell, it stars Vanessa Redgrave, Oliver Reed, Gemma Jones, Max Adrian and Dudley Sutton. Censored for over half a century, it returns in a landmark director's cut reconstruction that reveals the full power of Russell's original vision.
