About

A free seminar hosted by the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London as the first Black History Month Department Seminar, open to all with advance registration, followed by refreshments and networking. It features Dr Calvin Tiengwe, Assistant Professor in Imperial's Department of Life Sciences, speaking on 'How does a cell count to one? Mechanisms of immune evasion in African trypanosomes'. His talk explores how trypanosome parasites select a single surface protein from thousands of genes and alter its sugar modifications to evade host immunity, including the discoveries of the molecules ESBX and ESAG3, and how such insights could guide vaccine design against sleeping sickness. The seminar takes place at RSM 2.28 on the second floor of the Royal School of Mines on Imperial's South Kensington Campus.
