Anne Charnock's new novel Alston Moor, launched at Housmans.

A book launch at Housmans celebrating Anne Charnock's new novel, with readings, a conversation and mingling afterwards. Charnock, an Arthur C. Clarke Award-winning science-fiction writer, will be in conversation with fellow writer Sandra Newman. Alston Moor, published by Goldsmiths Press, is a polyphonic novel portraying one of England's most remote landscapes, now degraded and threatened by arson and wildfire. It interweaves a 1548 story of Isabel holding to old ways amid the Protestant reformation with a present-day tale of Elizabeth's scientist team trying to right ecological wrongs, asking how society confronts crisis through science, faith or ritual.
