About

Childhood in War: Family highlights is a set of family activities within the free, immersive exhibition Childhood in War at IWM London, which reveals how children have experienced conflict from 1914 to the present day. Imperial War Museums designed it for families with children aged 8+, with younger visitors welcome too, combining hands-on activities, real stories and interactive displays. Highlights include climbing aboard a recreated evacuee train carriage, playing a giant magnetic board game of wartime children's games, watching Duck and Cover in a Cold-War living room, crawling through a secret fireplace passage, and trying a rotary telephone. Visitors can also watch animated children's letters, explore real books on shelves, and guess smells at a wartime kitchen scent table.
