About
An evening combining a mini concert with a Bon Odori dance workshop at Goldsmiths. Goldsmiths students Emme Sum (vocals) with her band and Luke Wynn-Ruffhead (piano) perform music inspired by Japan, after which everyone is invited to learn Bon Odori, a traditional Japanese folk dance performed during the Obon festival to welcome and honour ancestors' spirits. Its simple, repetitive movements let anyone join the circle. The event follows the 'Crossing Borders: Japanese Popular Music, Culture and Identity' forum and is supported by the Japan Foundation and the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
