Darkness Never Lasts – Collective Drawings
Hundred Years Gallery, Pearson Street 13, E2 8JD London, Haggerston
£200
About
An exhibition of collective drawings made in monthly open sessions at the gallery, where participants drew with charcoal on large sheets of paper while electronic music played. Behind it are the gallery's residency with musician Cos Chapman, whose live improvisation guided the sessions, and visual artist and performer Jo Roberts, presiding in her role as The Librarian. The drawings move from dark masses surrounding human figures and despairing hands toward coloured, hopeful forms, and the works reflect the suffering of the Palestinian people and a wish for a peaceful, equalitarian solution. Each selected drawing is sold at the same price of £200, with half of the proceeds donated to Medical Aid for Palestine, a scheme that has so far raised £8,500.
