Blacks Britannica screening and talk with Bisi Akintoye.

An evening at Housmans pairing a screening of the documentary Blacks Britannica with the launch of Bisi Akintoye's new book, Black Britons, Race, and Policing: The Long Shadow. The 1978 film is a landmark documentary exploring racism, policing, immigration, employment and resistance in Black communities in Britain during the 1970s, built from interviews and contemporary footage. Bisi Akintoye's book draws on 58 interviews with young people, elders and community workers in a heavily policed North London neighbourhood to examine racialised policing, its everyday consequences and its legacies. Akintoye will be in conversation with Dr Remy-Paulin Twahirwa, who chairs the discussion, with drinks and snacks and copies of the book on sale.
