Eurosclerosis 2.0 in a changing world: from repetition to rupture
London School of Economics and Political Science, Houghton Street, WC2A 2AE London, Covent Garden
About
A free public keynote talk, in person and online, at the Marshall Building of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Pierre Wunsch, Governor of the National Bank of Belgium, speaks, with Professor Paul De Grauwe of the LSE European Institute chairing. He argues that Europe is stuck in a 'Eurosclerosis 2.0' period: despite repeated 'EU grand plans', growth is very low and the innovation gap with the US and China persists. Looking at technology, institutional set-up and geopolitical positioning, he says old European recipes no longer work and a more honest debate about trade-offs is needed, asking whether Europe can still thrive as a low-risk, low-return society.
