Making peace last: Lessons from Colombia and Northern Ireland

Chatham House

About

The University of Notre Dame convenes a panel of peacebuilding experts at Chatham House to explore what Colombia and Northern Ireland can teach about making peace last. Opened by Josefina Echavarría Álvarez, Director of the Peace Accords Matrix, it brings together Mary Robinson, Julieta Lemaitre Ripoll, Sergio Jaramillo Caro and Jonathan Powell, chaired by Marc Weller. Ten years after Colombia's 2016 Peace Agreement, the discussion explores how peace agreements are negotiated, implemented and sustained, and what lessons they offer for current and future peace processes. It closes with keynote reflections from Juan Manuel Santos, former President of Colombia and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and is supported by Humanity United.
