About

A seminar on state-imposed forced labour in the Uyghur Region of China and how it reaches global supply chains from apparel to renewable energy. Organised by the SOAS China Institute, it features Professor Laura T. Murphy, a scholar of forced labour at Sheffield Hallam University and Senior Associate at CSIS, chaired by Professor Rachel Harris of SOAS. The talk examines how the government manufactures vulnerability among Indigenous citizens to justify its actions, and how corporations use discourses of 'urgency' and 'complexity' to shelter their complicity. The event is free and open to the public, though registration is required, and will not be recorded or live-streamed.
