About

"Mother Courage and Her Children" is a play at the Globe Theatre, staged for the first time as part of the venue's summer season. The drama was written by German playwright Bertolt Brecht, translated by Anna Jordan and directed by Elle While, with Michelle Terry starring as Mother Courage. Set during the Thirty Years War, it follows a war profiteer who trades with both sides to protect her children, until the conflict claims them one by one. The dark, urgent story explores war, survival, capitalism and complicity, and is filled with biting humour and live music.
