Talks and readings
Moving mountains: talk on pioneering women climbers.
About
A lecture at the Royal Geographical Society telling the stories of nine extraordinary women mountaineers, from the 18th century to the present day, who defied extreme altitudes, blizzards, avalanches and discrimination to have peaks named in their honour. It shows how these climbers blazed trails from the Alps to the Andes and the Rockies to the Karakoram, achieving an honour long reserved for men and monarchs. Though their names endure on soaring summits, their remarkable stories remain untold – until now. Doors open at 2.00pm, with the lecture beginning at 2.30pm; in-person tickets are sold out, but the event can also be watched online.
