Explore 50: RGS celebration with tours and talks.
About
Explore 50 is an afternoon celebration marking 50 years of the Explore programme at the Royal Geographical Society, looking back at what has been achieved and ahead to the next 50 years of geographical exploration. The Society hosts it, inviting anyone to join. Visitors can view objects, maps, journals and photographs from the Society's Collections in the Foyle Reading Room, take a guided tour of Lowther Lodge including the Everest model used to plan the 1953 ascent, enjoy afternoon tea, and attend talks where five speakers, one from each decade since 1976, share stories from the field. Advance booking with an account on the Society's website is required; no tickets are issued, as names are checked on a list at the door via the Exhibition Road entrance.
