About

A screening of Persepolis, an animated film directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud from 2007. It was programmed by artist Autumn Knight to accompany her exhibition I Can't Complain, as one of three films in her selection, which she says explore complaint masked by humour and the dignity of labour and craft. Based on Satrapi's autobiographical graphic novel of the same name, the film follows her childhood transformed by the Iranian Revolution, her teenage exile in Europe and her return to Iran. The ticket includes free entry to the exhibition on the same day.

Critics

8.1Very good

Critics praise the striking black-and-white animation, its humour and heartfelt personal story. They fault a choppily dubbed English soundtrack and an adaptation that loses the depth of the original graphic novel.
