Black Narcissus

Black Narcissus is a psychological drama about a group of nuns, played by Deborah Kerr, Kathleen Byron and Flora Robson among others, who struggle to establish a convent in the Himalayas, where isolation, extreme weather, altitude and culture clashes drive the well-intentioned missionaries mad. Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, the film explores the conflict between the spirit and the flesh in their sensuous style. It won Oscars for Alfred Junge's art direction and Jack Cardiff's cinematography.
