About

The Letter – Experiments in Ink is an exhibition of printmaking at the Chapel of St Margaret's House. Artist Jane O'Sullivan, an experimental printmaker based in Bethnal Green who works primarily in black ink, takes imagery from the classic 1940 film noir 'The Letter', directed by William Wyler and starring Bette Davis and Gale Sondergaard. Working across Tetrapak etching, monotype, monoprint and woodcut, she experiments with tone and texture and reimagines the film's two powerful female protagonists against its backdrop of a sultry colonial Malayan rubber plantation. This is her first solo exhibition at St Margaret's House and her second noir-inspired one there.
