About
Translation Salon: Kafkaesque is an in-person talk in the New Room at The London Library, with a bar opening beforehand. It is the inaugural edition of the Library's new Translation Salon, a series exploring language and the art of translation, held in partnership with the Jewish Literary Foundation. Translator and host Daniel Hahn speaks with Maïa Hruska, whose first book, Kafkaesque, tells the story of the translators who saved Franz Kafka's work from oblivion, from Primo Levi and Milena Jesenská to Bruno Schulz and Jorge Luis Borges. The evening invites conversation about Kafka's work, translation and some of the greatest minds, tragedies and absurdities of the twentieth century.
