About
Pink Palace, a relaxed weekly queer film club held in the basement bar, joins Lobotomy Room to present the 1965 exploitation thriller "WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR", a tough, gritty tale from the mean streets of sixties New York. Curator Andrew Woodyatt introduces the film, in which Norah Dain (Juliet Prowse), a hip discotheque DJ, starts receiving menacing calls from a pervert spying on her every move. The screening highlights Sal Mineo's gutsy anti-hero performance and Elaine Stritch as the chic lesbian proprietress of Norah's nightclub, alongside a cinema verité focus on the seedy red-light district of long vanished 42nd Street. The New York Times called it "an exercise in hard-boiled sleaze", and the audience is invited to stay and chat afterwards.

Critics
7.2Very good
Critics praise the lead actor's layered, disturbing performance, the moody black-and-white photography and its gritty Times Square atmosphere. Some note the shock value has faded with time and find the lurid subject matter slightly uncomfortable.
