About
2046 is a film screening. Directed by Wong Kar-wai, this sort-of sequel to Days of Being Wild and In the Mood for Love is set in the '60s and follows Tony Leung Chiu-wai's Chow, now a suave science-fiction writer, through his various affairs with women including Faye Wong, Zhang Ziyi, and Gong Li, distractions since his true love, Mrs. Chen (Maggie Cheung, seen in flashback), has disappeared. Intercutting scenes from Chow's footloose life—several taking place on subsequent Christmas Eves—with scenes from his novel-in-progress, set in the titular year, it's a film of voluptuous melancholy.

Critics
7.4Very good
Critics praise the film's ravishing visuals, atmospheric melancholy and Zhang Ziyi's intense performance, alongside Wong's bold rejection of conventional storytelling. Some find it overly languid, self-indulgent and a repetition of earlier triumphs.
