A Bittersweet Life
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
A neo-noir thriller about a mob enforcer with a record of loyal service who fights for his life after sparing his boss's straying mistress. It was directed by Kim Jee-woon and stars Lee Byung-hun and Shin Min-a. The action set pieces are choreographed for the widescreen with much panache, grounded by emotional stakes and real physical danger. Jang Young Gyu's score, a melange of samba, flamenco, solo cello, and electronic elements, won Best Music honors from the Busan Film Critics Association.

Critics
7.7Very good
Critics praise the film's stylish, strikingly choreographed violence, assured direction, cinematography and Lee Byung-hun's magnetic, vulnerable lead performance. Faults are few: a familiar revenge plot and a long running time with some drawn-out scenes.
