About
Rainer Werner Fassbinder's suffocating chamber drama from 1976 turns a weekend getaway into a weekend from hell. Unhappily and unfaithfully married couple Gerhard and Ariane Christ, hoping to escape each other and their bitter disabled daughter Angela, end up at a family reunion at their country house with lovers in tow. There the vengeful Angela maneuvers everyone into a round of the eponymous guessing game, designed to sow dissension and inflict maximum psychological torment.

Critics
6.9Good
Critics admire the film's formal brilliance, with its gliding camera, mirrors, and piercing dialogue exposing deception and cruelty. They fault its suffocating coldness and intellectual aloofness, calling the melodrama bleak, gloomy, and emotionally alienating.
