Here, Already

"Here, Already" is a screening of three films by Salad Hilowle, Ahmed Umar, and Samira Elagoz with Z Walsh, guest-curated by Power Ekroth and followed by a discussion between Ekroth, Elagoz, and Walsh. The films explore love in different forms, from desire hidden in plain sight to intimacy across continents, with music playing an important role in each. Hilowle's "Passion of Remembrance" uses 1990s Swedish pop, television, and archival footage to reveal how Black artists were celebrated for their contributions to popular culture while treated as outsiders due to xenophobia. Umar's "Truth Bears No Scandal" brings hidden queer love stories within well-known Sudanese songs to the fore, while Elagoz and Walsh's "You can't get what you want but you can get me" documents their own love story across continents through a year of photographs.
