Shu Lea Cheang: LOVER LOVE
Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, Wooster Street 26, 10013 New York, Manhattan
About
Shu Lea Cheang: LOVER LOVE is an exhibition at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art built around a new four-channel digital film installation with movable screens and an interactive speaker system. It was created by artist Shu Lea Cheang with eight intergenerational performers in Tucson, Arizona, whose own experiences and dreams of trans and gender nonconforming life in today's United States shaped the collaboratively scripted film. The work moves between physical and virtual space, honoring Cheang's late collaborator, musician Aérea Negrot, whose 2011 track "It's Lover, Love" is triggered as visitors shift the screens. Curated by Stamatina Gregory, the installation invites viewers to navigate agency, survival, and intimacy in a time of escalating political precarity.
