About
Merkin Concert Hall hosts the NYC premiere of a new English version of the 1929 musical satire "Happy End". The piece by Kurt Weill, Bertolt Brecht and Elisabeth Hauptmann, a follow-up to The Threepenny Opera, is set in a smoky speakeasy where religion and capitalism collide. Directed by Mary Birnbaum, with a new English adaptation by Kelley Rourke, music direction by Rob Ainsley, singer Ana Karneža and jazz instrumentalists from the Manhattan School of Music. It features the original songs, including "Bilbao Song", "Mandalay Song" and "Surabaya Johnny", with English lyrics from Michael Feingold's American adaptation.
