About
A hands-on zine publishing workshop in which participants craft a collective zine and produce their own knowledge, culminating in a limited edition collective anthology printed for pickup at the Schomburg Center after the program. It is facilitated by BlackMass Publishing, a Black independent press and archive founded by artist and publisher Yusuf Hassan, whose practice examines publishing as a means of documenting, preserving, and circulating knowledge through printed matter. The workshop is inspired by the Schomburg Center's centennial exhibition To Uncover and Reveal to the World: Arturo Schomburg's Library, which displays the 4600-book, pamphlet, art, and manuscript 'seed collection' purchased by the New York Public Library in 1926. Collaging tools are provided; participants should bring magazine clippings, photographs, and other ephemera they wish to incorporate into their zines.
