About

Mannes Sounds: Fleeing for Survival is a concert program of works by composers forced to flee Nazi persecution and the labeling of their music as 'degenerate.' It honors their resilience and artistic legacy through music by Darius Milhaud, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Paul Ben-Haim, Walter Bricht, Arnold Schoenberg, Alexander von Zemlinsky, Julius Bürger, Karol Rathaus, Erich Zeisl, and Kurt Weill. The event is curated by Michael Leavitt and presented in collaboration with the American Society for Jewish Music, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, and the Leo Baeck Institute. It is presented by the College of Performing Arts at The New School.
