About
Mizuhiki: Japanese Decorative Knots – Memento Mori Jewelry is a hands-on workshop where you make your own accessory from mizuhiki, fine cords of twisted washi paper tied into decorative knots. It is led by Satoi Adams, a mizuhiki instructor who has taught in Boston, New York, and Tokyo since 2018. She guides participants through the basic knots and their meanings, which in Japan mark life's turning points and appear on condolence envelopes at funerals, where unbreakable knots carry the wish that such sorrow never be repeated. No experience is necessary, all materials are included, and the session is limited to 12 participants as part of the festival Memento Mori in NYC: The Art of Japanese Life and Death.
