Kazari Maki Zushi: Decorative Sushi Roll – Jack-o'-Lantern & Frankenstein
Resobox, 27th Street 41-26, 11101 Long Island City, Queens
$80 / person
About
A hands-on workshop in kazari maki zushi, Japan's art of decorative sushi rolls, where participants make a jack-o'-lantern and a Frankenstein's monster design whose faces appear in every slice. Every color comes from food — carrot, aonori, bonito furikake, nori, cheese, cucumber and fish sausage — with no dyes. The rolls are built in parts and assembled, so no sushi experience is needed. Chef Hiroyo Belmonte, a certified Level 1 instructor in decorative sushi from the Japan Sushi Instructors Association, guides every step.
