About

A screening of Episode 9, "Shadows of the Past," of the docuseries New York: A Documentary Film, followed by a talkback and Q&A. It was made by director Ric Burns and co-writer and co-producer James Sanders, who debuted the five-part series on PBS in 1999, and is hosted by Open House New York. The episode explores the forces that shaped New York in the second half of the 20th century, as the city fell into the most threatening period of decline and disorder in its history, then rose again thanks to a stunning drop in crime. It ends in the summer of 2001, with a safe and secure New York unaware of a new threat from beyond its borders.
