About

This is a screening of the film Paper Tiger, with the director appearing in person. James Gray has made a classical moral drama set in a personally remembered New York of the mid 1980s. Adam Driver plays Gary Pearl, a former New York police officer who draws his brother Irving, a middle-class Queens family man played by Miles Teller, into a get-rich-quick deal with local Russians working the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn, and the film charts the mounting, fearful consequences when things go wrong. Scarlett Johansson is mesmerizing as Irving's wife Hester, who clings to terrible secrets of her own, in a deeply felt tale of loyalty and sacrifice.
