About

An in-person evening class series on the Book of Genesis, read through poetics—the study of a literature's conventions and techniques. It is led by Rabbi David Whiman and hosted by Sutton Place Synagogue. The course explores how Genesis was shaped by Ancient Near Eastern literature yet took that inheritance in a new, revolutionary direction, reading the Torah without 2000 years of Rabbinic commentary. No knowledge of Hebrew is required.
