About

A talk at Roosevelt House marking the New York launch of historian Leah Garrett's new book, The Flight Nurses’ War: The American Women Who Saved Thousands of Lives at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Garrett, a Jewish Studies professor at Hunter College, will discuss her book in conversation with retired Army Major General Mari Eder. The book follows a team of American combat nurses who braved enemy assaults, disease and Kamikaze attacks in the Pacific Theater to evacuate thousands of wounded soldiers and help win the war. The event is co-presented by the Jewish Studies Center at Hunter College.
