The Man Who Laughs

About
A spooky screening of the silent film The Man Who Laughs, presented by The Center at West Park, with a live score performed by Ben Model, one of the nation's leading silent film accompanists. The story follows an 18th-century clown who was disfigured by a king as a child and again becomes the pawn of royalty and star of the freak show of a travelling carnival. Ben Model performs live on piano and theatre organ and has created several hundred live scores for silent films over more than 40 years, including work at the Museum of Modern Art (NY) and the Library of Congress' Packard Campus Theater.

Critics
7.2Very good
Critics praise striking performances, lavish production design and expressionist visuals that still disturb and inspire. They fault a sometimes hard-to-follow story and note the film is oddly less remembered than similar silent classics.
Reviews: cinematic randomness, Critical popcorn, Review Avenue
