About

This is a screening of the 1982 drama 'The State of Things' by director Wim Wenders, running 121 minutes. German filmmaker Friedrich, played by Patrick Bauchau, is shooting a shoestring post-apocalyptic thriller at a hotel on the storm-lashed Portuguese coast with American funding, and plays a waiting game with his cast and crew, including Viva, Sam Fuller, Isabelle Weingarten, and co-writer Robert Kramer, after their producer disappears. Shot in black and white by Henri Alekan, the film is Wenders's meditation on the co-dependence of the European and American film industries. The screening is introduced by cartoonist Nathan Gelgud and writer A. S. Hamrah, with a book signing by Gelgud afterward.
