Theory of Seeing: films by Sasnal, Ridnyi, Polska, Vidokle.

"Theory of Seeing" is a four-part film series presented at e-flux, screening new films by Wilhelm Sasnal, Mykola Ridnyi, Agnieszka Polska, and Anton Vidokle and Liam Gillick, with title sequences by Laura Pawela. Commissioned by Muzeum Sztuki, the project translates Władysław Strzemiński's book Theory of Seeing (1958) into moving images, testing his premise that seeing is not an unchangeable ability but a process shaped by history and social conditions. Each episode offers a contemporary interpretation of Strzemiński's thought, from museum conservation and the memory of the Holocaust to the optics of war, artificial intelligence, and the attention economy. The screening will be followed by a response from R.H. Quaytman.
