About

Volumes is the book club of the National Museum of Mathematics, a monthly reading group for anyone interested in mathematics and science, with no prior background needed. This session is a discussion of the book How to Win: A Mathematical Approach to Games and Puzzles with its author, Dr. Arthur Benjamin, hosted by Dr. Tiago Hirth, MoMath's 2026–2027 Visiting Professor for Public Outreach. The book breaks down the mathematics of games and puzzles, finding winning strategies in bingo, blackjack, Wordle, Rubik's Cube, sudoku, and casino games, and shows how the same math extends to everyday life. The session takes place online.
