About

“Tiling Problems: Introducing reptiles and chasing specters” is an in-person session of the Recreational Mathematics minicourse at the National Museum of Mathematics. The minicourse is hosted by Visiting Professor Dr. Tiago Hirth, a specialist in recreational mathematics and board game studies and co-founder of Circo Matemático. The course explores the playful side of mathematics through puzzles, games, patterns, and problems that have fascinated people for centuries, from cryptarithms and river-crossing problems to tessellations and rep-tiles. Along the way, participants solve ingenious problems from the past, invent new ones of their own, and encounter great figures of recreational mathematics from Fibonacci and Euler to Henry Dudeney, Martin Gardner, and John Conway.
