About
«America, America» is a black-and-white film from 1963. It was directed by Elia Kazan, who also wrote the screenplay based on his autobiography. It tells of young Stavros, a Cappadocian Greek who witnesses the violence inflicted on the Armenian and Greek minorities in Anatolia and, after his friend Vartan is killed, comes to believe that only distant America can free him. Along the way he loses his money, betrays his ideals and tears his homeland from his heart.
