Giger's biomechanical temples, painted 1974–75.

An exhibition as part of the «Substanzen Jetzt.» festival shows the four-part group of works «Passagen – Tempel» by H. R. Giger from 1974–75, including the central picture «Tempel, der Weg des Magiers». The monumental pictures appear like transitional spaces between birth and death, technology and body, fear and transformation. Giger's biomechanical temples recall inner landscapes and archetypal images of the hero's journey, the passage through darkness and the confrontation with the unconscious. Created in a time of intense engagement with consciousness expansion, psychology and psychedelic experience, the works touch imagery of dissolution, rebirth, merging and boundary crossing.
