Renaming – People, Things, Places

"Renaming – People, Things, Places" is a special exhibition at the Museum of Ethnology of the University of Zurich. Names have power: they shape our sense of self, how others treat us, and how we perceive the world. The museum has outgrown its name and is looking for a new one; the exhibition is part of this transition and invites visitors to reflect on the motivations behind and consequences of name changes. Using objects from the museum's collection as a starting point, it explores what it means to name or rename people, things, and places, and brings to light the diverse stories associated with names.
