About
A small cabinet exhibition in the mythological hall of the Neues Museum marking 100 years of the Egyptian dictionary, a tool still indispensable to Egyptology. It is staged by the Egyptian Dictionary project together with the Egyptian Museum. The show traces the route from ancient Egyptian texts to the finished dictionary: Adolf Erman and his team began work in the Neues Museum in 1897, building a card archive of more than one million slips that underpinned the work, whose first volume appeared in 1926. Objects from the dictionary's archive illustrate how this unique research project came into being.
