About
An evening concert by the Berliner Philharmoniker at the Philharmonie. At the podium is Iván Fischer, one of the most significant Mahler conductors of our time, celebrated for his transparent yet emotional interpretations. The centrepiece is Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony, the composer's most popular work, famous above all for its Adagietto, a musical declaration of love to Mahler's later wife Alma. It is preceded by Joseph Haydn's Sinfonia concertante, in which four orchestra soloists engage in a virtuosic dialogue with the orchestra.
