Neighbourhood walk on a secret escape route.
Kiezspaziergang „Das Berliner Loch“
About
A dialogical and participatory neighbourhood walk about the "Berliner Loch", a little-known escape route via East Berlin to West Berlin in the 1980s, through which people seeking protection, including civil war refugees, reached West Berlin. It is offered by Mohammed Ali Chahrour at the Nachbarschaftsheim Neukölln as part of Mitreden in Neukölln. The walk traces the lived reality of those affected, Berlin's shared urban society and the political debate, discussing why this history remains relevant today to questions of borders, belonging and remembrance. It is funded by the Berlin Senate for Culture and Social Cohesion and the Berlin State Agency for Civic Education. The meeting point is the Lohmühlenbrücke; registration is by email to [email protected].
