About
The Kommunale Klimakonferenz 2026 is an in-person event for municipal representatives from across Germany and other actors in local climate protection. It is run by the Deutsches Institut für Urbanistik (Difu), funded through the Nationale Klimaschutzinitiative, with the Deutscher Städtetag, Deutscher Landkreistag and Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund as cooperation partners. At its centre is the question of how climate protection can be used as a strategic lever and how climate protection, energy security from renewable sources, social justice and local value creation can be combined. The programme includes keynotes, panel discussions, practical forums, space for networking, and the award ceremony for the six winning municipalities of the „Klimaaktive Kommune 2026“ competition.
