Concerts
Kreek's Requiem, heard in Berlin for the first time.
About
A choral and orchestral concert featuring Cyrillus Kreek's Requiem, Mendelssohn's 42nd Psalm („Wie der Hirsch schreit“) and Lotta Wennäkoski's „Árva“. Polly Ott and Kuldar Schüts sing with the Estonia Seltsi Kammerkoor from Tallinn and the Kantorei Passion, with the Kammersymphonie Berlin conducted by Johannes Stolte. Kreek's Requiem of 1927, heard in Berlin for the first time, blends Western music, Estonian folk music and Orthodox church music; Wennäkoski's „Árva“ of 1997, dedicated to the composer's grandmother, circles around loss and memory. At 6 pm there is an introduction with musicologist Anu Schaper and Johannes Stolte.
