About
A reading with discussion at the Institute of Arabic Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. It honors the translation work of Larissa Bender and asks how literature and its translation relate to world affairs. Since 2011, the Arab uprisings, the summer of migration, and wars in Sudan and Palestine have changed how the region is perceived: do translated works reflect these upheavals, what role do German publishers play, and what is it like to give a bestseller its voice? Short readings are followed by room for exchange and discussion.
